Celeb Watch Summer 2011

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Summer’s here Celeb watchers – why else would Lady GaGa be out wearing nothing but a body stocking and handful of strategically placed sequins as an evening gown?!! Now we all know fashion is as short lived as Cheryl Cole’s US career – (Sorry Chezza, we still love you and welcome you home!) So as the temperature hots up so do the fashion stakes, and it’s time to shop shop shop…….what’s inspiring us this week?

January Jones – Hot Mamma-to-be, wins the most original look this week, in a tres retro butterfly shaped rimless with high joints and high fashion kudos. Perfect colour match to her dress too – perfection all round.

Pippa Middleton – Are we the only ones looking at her eyewear, not her derriere? Chic tortoiseshell plastic with a hint of understated bling at the temple trim. Her sister may be a Duchess but surely she’s a style Queen…..

Courteney Cox – Our fave Cougar hitting the town in a funky round frame, a nice juxtaposition to her tiny features.

Lady GaGa – If attention could be diverted from the afore mentioned unmentionables, note the groovy round sunnie lenses suspended from a geometric top bar. But really, who would be looking?

So that’s our week Celeb watchers, four distinctive girls in four distinctive styles, that’s a lot of sunnies to buy……a dirty job but someone’s got to do it…….

Celeb Watch October

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

Before we pull our Pumpkin outfits on and totter out in our fangs ready for Halloween, we’ve got some serious shopping to do to match our gorgeous new Autumn wardrobe! Awash with minimal tailoring, delicious sheepskin boots and lashings of leopard print, we’re ready for the finishing touch – a fab new piece of eyewear to add that mysterious touch. Now let’s check out the Celebs for some inspiration before we thrash the plastic…..

Jennifer Aniston – Our fave beach babe looking fresh for Autumn in a shiny gold Aviator with of –the-moment graduated lenses. If you’re got a heart shaped face this is for you……..it also helps if you look like our Jen too….

Kylie – Our best pop princess looking fab-u-lous in a yummy retro tortoiseshell cat’s eye – classic and gorgeous, and a tiny bit different. Nice work Auntie Kylie.

Jessica Biel – rocking the Autumn trench, and cool and chic in a Kylie-like cat’s eye with a cool brown lens. A perfect shape for her perfect shape….

Lady GaGa – we’ve just about forgiven her for the meat mayhem outfit, and loving the look this week in a chunky plastic with fat sides and a cool frosted finish. After the fillet frock we’re not quite sure she’s the style icon we thought she was though…..

So it’s time to shop people! Plenty of ideas in mind, thanks but no thanks Lady G think we’re heading for the Kylie-Jessica cat’s eye look. Looking forward to our next new look for Autumn!

Lady Like Looks

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Open any fashion magazine this autumn and you’ll notice that the trend for girly, ladylike dresses and accessories is everywhere for the new season. (Except on Lady Gaga – steak style – what is she thinking?) Circular skirts and cinched waists are in, along with demure new hem lengths and sophisticated colours like camel. In eye wear, the dull days of unisex styles are behind us, and along with your kitten heels and flirty frocks a truly feminine frame is a must!

Larger, retro shapes have been with us for some time, and with the bling trend fading, designers are using shape and contour to add interest and glamour. The classic upswept cat’s eye shape is only for Dame Edna and the very brave, but softened versions of it are creeping in now. It’s still there, but not as exaggerated, a little bigger, and with solid colours that scream 2010 not 1960. The bang on trend can go for it by heading for deep winged shapes in solid shades, but for the rest of us a feminine, curved plastic with detail at the temple will bring us nicely into fashion this season.

Take Mad Men as your inspiration and then create your own version, checking out high street styles in Mango, Zara and H&M for swirly frocks, full skirts, and dresses with nipped in waists. Bring it up to date with chunky heel ankle boots, skinny belts and attitude. Shop for the wardrobe then the eyewear, with soft neutral tones of taupe and navy complimenting the clothes and complexions. Metal frames are seen less and less at the moment, because plastic lends itself well to a fifties look and gives you a shot of colour. So keep your geek frames with preppy jeans for your casual days

Celeb Watch Hello June 2010

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

It’s jumping June Celeb Watchers! Time to gear up for festivals, Pimms, suntans and maxi-dresses for all occasions. (What a wonderful invention – we may never wax our legs again!) While we wallow in SATC 2 fever and dribble into our popcorn over Aiden and Mr Big – that SJP is one lucky lucky girl, we somehow have to find time to keep an eye on those Celebs for you……

Victoria Beckham – Ok, we’ll never get over our crush on VB, the ultimate icon for die-hard shoppers, so we may be biased, but we’re loving her huge shades with a cool graduated tint.

Kate Winslet – We do admire her spunky British style, but in the way of British style it’s sometimes a little off kilter – take a leaf from VB’s book, Kate, and graduate with honours! The one colour tint is so last year – but nice big square sunnies, top marks for a shape that suits you.

Lady GaGa – Lady G, if we’ve got a crush on Mrs Beckham then it’s true love for you, you never disappoint! It’s hard to concentrate on the eye wear what with the fishnets, crazy hats and big pants, but she’s been rocking a huge Aviator shield. Very feminine on her petite face.

Khloe Kardashian – Taking a leaf our of VB’s book, in a cool and vastly oversized plastic with a graduated tint. Nice brown to honey shading, beautiful against her skin.

So thanks for the inspiration girls, we’re off to shop – check list for festival – Prada silk pumps, tiny shorts, baby wipes, at least six pairs of sunnies, fishnets and telephone hat – high maintenance? Moi?

Celeb Watch Winter’s End 2010

Friday, March 5th, 2010

We’re exhausted this week Celeb watchers, what with drinking in every detail of the fab frocks at the Baftas and trying to keep up with the news on our face Celeb couples. How divine did Kate Winslet look in her slinky black lace panelled gown? How dreamily delicious was Colin Firth in his gracious acceptance speech? (Totally our new crush, even without the Mr Darcy wet shirt) Then we’re having to cope with worrying about Cheryl, and even Vernon and Tess are causing us stress…only one thing for it…..time to Celeb watch then shop shop shop……

Cheryl Cole – Poor darling, fighting for her love or maybe just her sanity but holding up in the style stakes with some fab hats and very cool bronze Aviators. Perfect colour with her luscious toffee coloured locks, now she just needs to find a perfect man….

Lady GaGa – Ok they weren’t really glasses but how cool was her lace headgear with lace eye mask! She just has to get a mention for being so wonderfully bonkers!

Brad and Angelina – in a show of togetherness even wearing matching Avaitors, and those shades are as out of their sell by date as Brad’s tragic beard. Smarten up man! Then maybe Jen will do the whole world a favour and take you back.

Victoria Beckham – Doing oversized with complete conviction, a huge smoky plastic in a very cool and retro octagonal shape. She may have her detractors but honestly, she never gets it wrong.

Well that’s better isn’t it, some serious style watching puts you right back on track for the must have list for Spring and we’re sure a bit of serious shopping will cheer Cheryl right up. You can’t rely on a man but there’s never heartbreak browsing the rails down Bond Street……

Keep It Personal!

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

As passionate believers in the power of eyewear, we think your total look should start with the specs and then work out from there! Always remember that your glasses frame is the first thing people will see when they look at your face, so let’s have a think about the all important wardrobe personality of your frames…..

Are you a hippy chick? Are you embracing the ditsy floral trend or clinging to the last remnants of boho chic? Sienna Miller spring to mind? Then you need to think soft, girly and feminine with your eyewear. Look for warm plastics in your favourite colour, with a sprinkling of delicate pattern. While outright bling may not be for you, little touches of detail or a subtle flower motif will be the finishing touch to your look.

Favour power suits and are excited about the return of the shoulder pad? Then your groomed, classic style will need to be enhanced by something smart and classy. We’re thinking Kate Silverton – grown up, not too wild, suitable for the board room. A metal in a neutral shade will be good, or the clean lines of a semi rimless. The detail here will be in etched stripes, neat trims, or maybe a contrasting, but not clashing colour.

If you would still love a dressing up box, and half your outfits are more like costumes, then you love the dramatic, the bold, the eclectic. (Lady GaGa we might just be thinking of you!) Your eyewear should be equally different, so think bright, think strong, eye catching and a little crazy. Balance strong colours in clothes with your frames, go for chunky plastic and a much bling as you can fit on.

Sporty girls with their long lithe limbs and gym fetish, need to soften any masculine sportswear with a sleek frame that’s lightweight and aerodynamic. Madonna even wears her sunnies with her gym gear – but that’s the price of celebrity! You can still choose a woman’s frame by going for a warm colour – although red or pink may bring attention to your flushed cheeks! Again, neat details like engraving or bevelled rims will add style but not too much glamour.

Any super achieving multi-taskers amongst us may switch from one personality to another through the course of a day! Change your specs accordingly and have fun  – visit the online optician to hunt for some new looks!

Get Packing!

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Our jolly holidays will soon be upon us, so lets’ have a quick look at what you need to pack to ensure good eye health and excellent vision while you are away. If you need new specs for your hols then get your order in early – this is always a busy time for any opticians as we rush to fulfill orders to let you do your sight seeing!

Obviously a spare pair of glasses is essential – they get dropped over the side of boats, left on planes, squashed in unfamiliar rooms, and ground into the sand. That blissful view looks even better when you can see it! So don’t think that your four year old pair will do as a spare. Could you drive in them for long periods? Would you be seen dead in the frame?!

Then there are sunglasses, whether prescription or clear. Do you look like Dame Edna or Lady GaGa in last years? Are they scratched, sad, or sandblasted? Make sure you have 100% UV protection and a good tint that’s dark enough for the climate of your destination.

If you wear contact lenses, make sure you pack your spare glasses, and plenty of cleaning solutions for your time away. It’s not always possible to get the same solution abroad, so make sure you’ve got your supply to hand. You may also need non prescription sunglasses to wear over your contacts.

If you need reading glasses, why not pick up a couple of cheap pairs of ready readers, so you have some to hand if you lose or break a pair. That relaxing read on the beach won’t be fun if you’re squinting at every line and giving yourself wrinkles!

If you use eye drops or take supplements for your visual health, stock up before you go, and don’t have a holiday from taking them! Take a copy of your glasses prescription with you, so that if the worst comes to the worst you can order replacements. Have a relaxing holiday and at least you’ll be sure that your eyes are taken care of!
