How The Eye Works

Light enters the eye through a transparent window that covers the front of your eyeball. This is called the cornea. Light travels through the cornea and the lens just behind it, and is focussed on the light sensitive cells that line the inside of the eyeball.(This is called the retina.) The cornea and the lens make your eye focus clearly, and if there is a fault in either, you won’t see clearly. You need glasses or contact lenses – or laser surgery - to enable you to see well.
